By , About.com Guide

In New Orleans, Brennan's is an institution, known for belt-popping breakfasts and brunches. The proper way to end a meal here is with Bananas Foster, a dessert invented here in 1951.

Brennan's Bananas Foster is not only delicious to eat, but an entertaining spectacle to behold, as it's prepared tableside. The ingredients are simple: bananas, butter, sugar, cinnamon, drenched in a sauce of banana liqueur and white rum. Your waiter sets the entire pan aflame while you watch, agog. After the flambé, the bananas are placed on top of vanilla ice cream and served.

Plan your visit: Hours: Breakfast and Brunch: Monday through Friday: 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday: 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Dinner served on Saturday and Sunday only: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Location: Brennan's is in the French Quarter, see a map here.
