Del's Lemonade started business in 1948, in Cranston, Rhode Island, but according to the company's history, it started much earlier than that: in Naples, Italy in 1840, when Franco DeLucia collected winter snow, insulated it with straw, and then mixed it with lemon and sugar when summer arrived to create a fruit ice.

His son, Angelo, is the one who started the current business, launching the first green and white mobile units which are now found throughout Rhode Island (and many other states).

Del's Lemonade is a lemon ice, essentially, although it's not quite as frozen as an Italian ice you've had elsewhere, so it melts quickly enough to be drinkable.
