Interview with Angela Shen, owner of Savor Seattle:
Q. How is your service different from other tour operators in your area?
A. We are the #1 ranked attraction in Seattle and one of the top 10 tours in America, ranked by TripAdvisor. We also offer Seattle's official Pike Place Market food and cultural tours. Our fun, experienced tour guides never use scripts. We have genuine and intimate relationships with each of our food partners. When we take you behind the scenes, it feels more like an insider introducing you to their talented food friends. We are also the first tour company in Seattle to utilize discrete, personal audio devices. Guests never have to strain to hear or fight to stand next to the guide.Q. Who guides your tours? How are they selected and what are their qualifications?
A. Our tour guides are vibrant, passionate, and funny! They have a serious love for everything food-related and a deep appreciation for our fair city of Seattle. Some of them have serious food backgrounds (e.g. food writers, dietitians), others have done a lot of, shall we say...field research. Some are also active in theater. As long as they can enthrall a group of hungry food-enthusiasts, we're good to go!Q. What's your most popular offering?
A. Our most popular food and cultural tour is our Pike Place Market: Classics Tour. Great for first time visitors, our expert guides will take you through the hustle and bustle of the Market to the "classic" spots that have made the Pike Place Market a world-famous destination. See fish fly, cheese being made by hand, and the original Starbucks store. This tour pairs quintessential Seattle foods with animated stories and history of this 101-year old culinary landmark.Q. Please share three or four unique experiences that a traveler will have on your tours that they couldn't experience on their own.
A. We are the only company that has a relationship with the famous Pike Place Fish guys. On our Pike Place Market: Classics Tour, we generally are able to have one person in the group catch a real fish! On all of our tours, you will also get to personally interact with the chefs and passionate owners that bring the Seattle food scene to life. Often times, restaurants will open just for our groups, so we get intimate 1-on-1 time in a restaurant all to ourselves. On our Chocolate Indulgence Tour, our tours get to jump the line at the Space Needle, a private elevator to the top, and then private dining with the Executive Chef or Sous Chef at Sky City, with the best view in town.Q. Any optional add-ons to your set itineraries?
A. For private tours and special occasions, we can customize the tour and then any additional add-ons you desire.Q. What's are the questions you're asked most often? (And what are the answers?)
A.- Is there enough food for a full meal?
Yes! You will try 25+ tastings from 7-10 different Seattle restaurants and food artisans. - How physically fit do I need to be to enjoy the tours?
The tours require a certain level of physical stamina. We are on our feet for approximately 2-3 hours. On the Gourmet Seattle Tour, be prepared to cover 1.2 miles of ground, which include two blocks at a slight incline, and up and down three sets of stairs. Although this is a longer tour, you will have an opportunity to sit at every other tasting stop. On the Chocolate Indulgence Tour, be prepared to cover 1.4 miles of ground, which includes no hills, but does involve going up and down four steps. Tastings are on the go and seating opportunities are limited and sporadic. - How much overlap is there across the tours?
There is minimal content and location overlap across our tours. All tastings are unique to each tour.
