Okay, this is not the best time of year to visit Houston -- since the high temperatures are a rounding error away from 100 degrees during the summer -- but start making your plans now for a food-focused visit this Fall, after the heat and threat of hurricanes have passed.
Why? It's a top-notch food scene that includes everything from BBQ shacks to the most sophisticated fine dining. It's still greatly underrated on the national scene, but the prices are generally affordable and the snob factor is basically nonexistent.
