Huckleberry picking in Sandpoint.
Berry week wraps up with a note about huckleberry season in the Pacific Northwest, which will be here before you know it. (Earlier posts on berries here and here.) One of the best places to visit for a huckleberry picking, noshing and hiking is Sandpoint, Idaho, about 90 minutes from the Spokane airport.
Plan ahead: Idaho's official state berries are ripe for the picking from late July into August. Schweitzer Mountain resort holds a Huckleberry Festival on August 1st, 2010.
