If the path to a person's heart is through their stomach, chocolate and wine are the expressway. Plan a trip to wine country in February for a number of romantic, tasty food events that feature the grape and the cocoa bean.
You don't have to wait for the big V day itself to start celebrating. On February 6th, check out the Wine & Chocolate Fantasy at Rodney Strong in Healdsburg, California. (That's Sonoma County.) Or there's "Taste the Passion" weekend, hosted by the wineries of Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula on February 6th and 7th. You'll get a souvenir glass, a special wine pour and a chocolate treat at each winery you visit.
In New York's Finger Lakes region, the Keuka Wine Trail is offering a "Truffles and Tastes" weekend on February 13th and 14th, where you can collect chocolate truffles at each winery and place them in a special gift box -- if you don't eat them first. In Washington State, the Yakima Valley hosts Red Wine and Chocolate on Valentine's Day weekend. (See the February events calendar for more info.)
And there are some events that go on all month long. In California, the wineries of Napa Valley host Chocolate Decadence tastings every weekend in February.
