As part of my continuing effort to keep you informed of all things burger, via Grub Street, I've just learned of the First Feedbag Burger Summit, which will go off on July 25th, as part of the Summit Wine & Food Festival. (Feedbag is a publication of Citysearch, it's a super-fun and informative read, bookmark it!)
So, this isn't just going to be a casual contest, folks. Per Feedbag:
So, this isn't just going to be a casual contest, folks. Per Feedbag:
Every team will submit their burgers in unmarked, coded boxes — making this a true blind tasting. An obese and obscure chef will have the same chance as a flawlessly beautiful TV celebrity. Moreover, the tasting won’t be apples vs. oranges, with elaborate gourmet creations bullying classically simple traditional burgers. No, there are four categories: classic (meat, bun, conventional condiments); slider (2 ounces and down); gourmet (all beef, but elaborations permitted); and specialty (anything goes.) A dozen hand-selected guest judges, including top chefs and food writers, will choose the winners in each category. And one team will be named Grand Champion and earn the hamburger laurels.Competitors include heavy hitters: Perry Street (Jean Georges), Minetta Tavern (Balthazar), Txikito, Craftsteak, BLT, Solo BGR (Burger Joint D.C.), Joe's Best Burger, Kobe Club, Le Bernadin, Steak & Shake, Water Taxi Beach, Park Avenue Spring, Fatty Crab, Abe & Arthur's, Stand, Alma de Cuba, Strip House, La Fonda del Sol, Flip, 42 (White Plains), Anthos, Due Terre, The Little Owl, Veselka, Wild Wood Barbeque. I'm eager to see who walks away a winner!

Hi Alison-
What would you say is the best hamburger in NYC?
I guess i am a fan of burger joint but i am always looking for new places?
Hi TexasB,

The debate rages on about this, and I haven’t tried every contender in the city yet, but I really do like Stand Burger, down on University Place. I bet that Txikito, a Basque restaurant in Chelsea, also does an incredible burger since I’ve been very impressed with everything else I’ve tried there.
