This year, the Hotel des Academies et des Arts on the Left Bank of Paris opened its Chez Charlotte tea room. Chez Charlotte was the name of a café that operated next door for a time, where cash-strapped artists could trade their art for food and drink. The new incarnation, in the hotel lobby, accepts legal tender only. The tea here is from Le Palais des Thés, the macarons are from Pierre Hermé, including those of balsamic vinegar, white truffles with grilled hazel nuts, chocolate and foie gras, wild roses with fig and foie gras, as well as black truffle. The price isn't bad either: tea is 4.50 euro and a selection of macarons is eight euro. The hotel also offers cooking classes, starting with a visit to a market, and a pastry class, and is running several specials on its room rates, including a stay three nights, get the fourth night free offer from July 29th to August 27th.

Oh, I visited Chez Charlotte in May 2009 when I was in Paris. After a day of trekking around the city, this little gem was an oasis of comfort and calm. We fell in love with maracrons at Chez Charlotte!
