Truffle Hunting in Western AustraliaTruffle season won't begin until winter in Europe -- but on the Southern Hemisphere, it's winter already. From June 6th to August 29th, 2009, have a culinary adventure on a truffle hunt at Wine and Truffle Company, the largest trufferie on the Australian mainland. You'll go on a hunt for these tasty little fungi (that grow on the roots of trees infected with truffle spores), assisted by specially trained dogs. The tour costs $105 Australian (roughly $87 US), and includes a wine and truffle tasting, a 10 gram package of fresh truffles, and tips on how to cook with this delicate ingredient.
